Delete your account

For Vako (app.vako.mobile) on the App Store and Google Play. Last updated 8 September 2026.

The short version

  • In the app: Settings → Delete account. One tap and a confirmation, and it is done immediately.
  • Without the app: write to hello@abhishekbr.com and we will do it for you within 30 days.
  • Your email address, your Google and Apple sign-ins and your device identifier are erased outright. Nothing can sign back in.
  • What you watched and saved stays, attached to a random identifier and nothing else. Ask, and that goes too.
  • Deleting the account does not cancel a subscription. Cancel that in the App Store or Google Play first.

In the app

This is the fastest route and it needs nothing from us. Open Vako, go to the You tab, open Settings, and scroll to Delete account at the bottom. The app asks you to confirm, and the deletion happens as you tap — there is no waiting period and no email to click.

It works whether or not you ever signed in. Vako makes an anonymous account on your device the first time you open it, and that account is deleted the same way as one with an email on it.

Without the app

If you have already deleted Vako from your phone, or cannot open it, write to hello@abhishekbr.com from the email address you signed in with and ask us to delete your account. That address is how we know the request is yours, so please send it from the account you want deleted rather than telling us what it is.

If you never signed in — if the account was the anonymous one the app made on your device — there is no email address on it and nothing we can match a request against. In that case the account is only reachable from the phone that holds it, and Settings → Delete account on that phone is the way. Reinstalling the app does not bring an old anonymous account back; it makes a new one.

We answer every request within 30 days, and usually the same week. You do not have to give a reason.

What is deleted

Immediately, and with no way for us to undo it:

  • your email address;
  • your display name and avatar;
  • your password, where you set one — we hold a one-way hash of it, and that goes too;
  • your linked Google and Apple identities, so neither can sign back into the account;
  • your device identifier, so the phone gets a genuinely fresh account rather than resurrecting the old one;
  • every session and refresh token, so anything already signed in is signed out.

What is kept, and why

Your watch history, the words you saved and the product analytics events described in the privacy policy are kept, attached only to a random account identifier that no longer connects to any name, address, device or sign-in. They are what the aggregate numbers about the product are built from — how many people finish a clip, which languages are learned most — and by that point they say nothing about who you are.

If you would rather that residue were erased as well, say so in the same email and we will erase it. It is a real deletion, not a flag: the rows go.

Your subscription

A subscription is billed by Apple or Google, not by us, and only they can cancel it. Deleting your Vako account does not cancel it, and you would keep being charged for an account that no longer exists. Cancel it first:

  • iPhone or iPad — Settings → your name → Subscriptions → Vako → Cancel Subscription.
  • Android — Play Store → your profile picture → Payments & subscriptions → Subscriptions → Vako → Cancel.

Cancelling stops the next renewal and leaves your access running to the end of the period you have paid for. Refunds are Apple’s and Google’s to give under their own policies.

Anything else

To ask for a copy of what we hold, to have something corrected, or to ask a question about any of this, write to hello@abhishekbr.com. The privacy policy is the full account of what we collect and who touches it.
